Passionate

We desire to be a passionate community of Christ followers who love God with authentic, sacrificial zeal.

City Church seeks to be a community of people who, nurtured by God’s Word and prayer, love God wholeheartedly, trust him faithfully, and find satisfaction in him preeminently. This kind of passionate living involves the heart, soul, mind, and strength (Deut. 6:5; Matt. 22:37; Mark 12:30). Our love for God should be evident to all, for people will know we are Christians in part by our love for God and one another. We trust God faithfully, casting all of our anxieties on him since he cares for us (1 Peter 5:7). We live with thanksgiving and peace despite the uncertainties and trials that inevitably come along in life because we ultimately find our satisfaction in the Lord (Ps. 17:15; 63:5; Matt. 6:25-34). Our passion for God leads to character growth and fruitful living (Gal. 5:22). Although some of us may grow quickly in some areas and struggle more in others, there should be evidence in our lives that we are not the same people we were when we first committed our lives to Christ (2 Cor. 5:17).

City Church seeks to be a community of people who talk naturally about the things we love. We want to share our experiences of such things with others so that they can experience them with us and share in our appreciation. It follows, then, that we want to tell others about God and openly profess our love for Jesus Christ. Just like David danced before the Lord, so we should make our public lives a dance before the Lord regardless of the opinions of those around us (cf. 2 Sam. 6:14). This does not mean that we should be obnoxious or inconsiderate. Rather, we should be unashamed and excited about the Lord.
